(ASUU) on Monday kicked against the reviving of schools by the Federal Government because of the COVID-19 pandemic right now attacking the nation.

Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU National President, talked with the with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun.

As indicated by him, the Federal Government expected to address the difficulties of training segment before it can talk of reviving schools.

Ogunyemi encouraged the Federal Government to give perfect condition and should start to lead the pack by meeting the conditions spelt out by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) before reviving schools.

“The Federal Government must lead and show the ways by meeting the conditions for reviving of schools before any school can be permitted to open, in light of the fact that COVID-19 pandemic is a wellbeing challenge.

“With regards to general wellbeing, it is something that ought not be left in the possession of individual, however the Federal Government must start to lead the pack,” he said.

The ASUU president recorded the conditions spelt out by NCDC to include: arrangement of materials for normal washing of hands, face veil, seclusions focuses, space for social separating and hands sanitiser.

Ogunyemi said that a large number of the schools don’t have monetary abilities to meet those conditions and necessities for reviving of schools.

“It is self-destructive to revive schools now, if the Federal Government itself couldn’t meet the conditions spelt out by NCDC and World Health Organization (WHO).

“The country will uncover the blameless kids to dangers which is avoidable,” he said.

Ogunyemi noticed that what number of these schools could stand to give hand sanitiser, saying that a large number of them don’t have running water, not to talk of having office for washing hands.

He included that numerous schools need more spaces to advance physical separating.
