He’s been a disappointment, can’t stay fit – Keown blasts Arsenal star
Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, has slammed Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, following the Gunners’ away Premier League 2-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday night.
Keown branded Partey as a ‘disappointment’ for Arsenal even though the Ghanaian international did not feature for Mikel Arteta’s side against Brentford due to injury.
He explained that Partey ‘couldn’t stay fit’ for Arsenal since joining the North London club from Atletico Madrid last year.
Partey sustained an ankle injury during Arsenal’s pre-season 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at Emirates earlier this month.
“Recruitment is glaring when you look at Pepe and the money they have spent and you are looking for a performance. It is not about marquee signing or making a statement with what you spend, it’s who you buy and then how they perform,” Keown told Stadium Astro.
“I think [Thomas] Partey has been one of the best signings they have made, I like Gabriel as a central defender, but Partey can’t stay fit and he’s been a disappointment.
“When you look at the recruitment and who has been bought, it’s not going well. But the team needs to regroup and respond in a calm way and come back fighting.
“But it is going to be the young players that the club looks to because they are the future of the club, Saka and Smith Rowe, but they need support. They need Lacazette and Aubameyang to be well and join the group very quickly.”
