Open grazing attracts 3 year jail term -Ogun state assembly passes bill

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a bill banning open grazing,the bill passed plenary on Thursday and puts offenders at the risk of a 3 year jail term.

The southern  Governors fixed September as the deadline for open grazing practice,a development which has been a subject of controversy,the ogun state assembly passed the animal grazing regulation and cattle ranch 2020 into the law.

The lawmakers said that this bill should address incessant clashes between herders and farmers.

The long title of the bill reads,”HB NO.045/OG/2021-A law to regulate animal grazing,establishment of cattle ranches in designated grazing areas of ogun state and other matters incidental thereto and connected therewith.
