Rudiger has been tipped to leave the Premier League

Chelsea’s pursuit of the centre-back continued throughout the summer months, although a buyout never materialized.

And things could get worse when it is reported that Antonio Rudiger is on the list of Real Madrid centre-backs according to reports.

Chelsea bosses worked hard to sign Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde last summer as Thomas Tuchel’s final piece.

However, after not being able to agree a certain amount with Sevilla, the Frenchman remained in Andalusia and Chelsea found themselves underdog.

The Blues have sold centre-backs Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi to pick up the coveted defender. Without signing their man, Chelsea are running out of central defenders but can at least take comfort in knowing that funds are still available to bring him in.

However, a key could be released in January as Rudiger is further tipped to leave the club, this time for Real Madrid.

Rudiger, 28, has become one of Tuchel’s brightest players as Chelsea regularly produce defensive superstars.

The German was out of the service of Frank Lampard, but Tuchel’s renewed confidence in the centre-back breathed new life into him and he became one of the Premier League’s best defenders. However, the good news ends there.

Rudiger has just nine months left on his contract, meaning he is free to talk to other teams in January with the goal of playing next summer.

And as the club are said to be unwilling to pay him the salaries of stars Romelu Lukaku, N’Golo Kante and Timo Werner, Rudiger is said to be considering a move elsewhere.

Real Madrid have been reported by Fichajes to be interested in the Berlinborn defender as he looks to replace duo Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

The duo left Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United respectively and Real only brought in one defender for David Alaba, leaving room for the other.

A report from Fichajes shows that Los Blancos have five people on their shortlist, with Rudiger being the more viable option. Pau Torres, Marquinhos, Matthias Ginter and Milan Skriniar are also linked for the role, although Fichajes claims it will be the biggest deal on the market as it will not require a transfer fee.

In recent days, Chelsea is said to have moved to recruit Matthijs De Ligt, possibly as a backup plan for Rudiger’s departure, while Kounde is also still an option if the German international moves.
