WSL player of the month shortlist for September revealed
The first Women’s Super League player of the month shortlist has been revealed, including two players each from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead, who have been affectionately dubbed ‘Meadema’ as a result of their partnership firing Arsenal to the top of the WSL, are nominated, as are Chelsea duo Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr, who are alternatively known as ‘Kerrby’.
Miedema scored four goals and registered an additional two assists in Arsenal’s perfect start to the season. She has netted in all three WSL wins so far, including the crucial opening goals in statement victories over title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City.
Mead, meanwhile got three assists as well as three goals of her own. Two of her goals proved decisive in that aforementioned win over Chelsea on the opening weekend.
Kerr jointly leads the WSL scoring charts alongside Miedema on four goals – the Australian’s tally comes from braces in impressive Chelsea wins over Everton and Manchester United.
Kirby scored the openings goal in each of those victories for the Blues and also has two assists to her name already, as well as creating the most chances of any WSL player this month.
Fresh off winning a gold medal at the Olympics with Canada, Zadorsky has helped Tottenham exceed expectation. They have kept two clean sheets and won all three games they have played.
Allen has made a similarly positive impact at an improved Villa. She has scored twice in three games to contribute towards seven points from a possible nine in September.
Kaagman, meanwhile, scored twice from the penalty spot in successive Brighton wins to help the Seagulls also take seven points from September games and prove last season was no fluke.
